Large Pharmaceutical manufacturer.
Over 1000 outside salesmen in North America, each with a notebook computer
and periferals. |
| Opportunity: |
Need to track maintenance,
repairs, updates, location, and other information about over 1000 notebook
computers assigned to outside salesmen. Detailed and summary reports
are required by management and Accounting. Tracking of status
of each notebook is essential, including tracking systems which have not
received the required updates. System must be portable, and help
make the mass updates performed at periodic regional sales meetings easier
and accurate. In addition to tracking the equipment in the field,
the system also needs to track the inventory of equipment in and out of
inventory as it is issued to to the users, loaned, returned, or scrapped.
The user interface must be very simple and user friendly so that clerks
can focus on their primary responsiblities instead of spending a lot of
time learning how to use software. The system must have a high degree
of falut tolerance, so to minimize the chance of user error. |

Laser
Lite ProMX
portable data terminals with integrated laser scanners are
used to scan bar codes representing computers, peripherals, components,
software, status, and maintenance actions. A
Kroy
K750
portable printer is used to create bar codes to label items not
already bar coded by the manufacturer. System generated, user customizable
bar coded "menus" are scanned to record the equipment that is being modified
and the work performed. A wireless IR interface between the
Laser
Lite ProMX
and small portable
O'Neil
printers allow users to print bar codes on demand as they're working on
the equipment. Reporting capabilities include searches on multiple criteria
and printing user customizable reports. |

Cellular phone network operator.
Responsible for equipment maintenance at several microwave/radio towers
and inventory at several retail stores. |
| Opportunity: |
Need to track maintenance,
repairs, and installed parts at the microwave radio towers, and inventory
control at the retail stores. Inventory and sales records are needed
for management. Reminders for upcoming regular maintenance and maintenance
records are necessary to meet Communications regulations. |

Whole Solutions created a custom
application for tracking the repair and maintenance of the Cellular
equipment and the components used for that repair and maintenance.

used to scan both manufacturer's bar codes and bar codes created on a Kroy
K2500 portable bar code printer. Periodic physical inventories
are performed at each store using the Laser Lite scanners and the manufacturer's
bar codes. |

industry leader of home and professional power tools, and manufacturer
of circular saw blades. |

Need to track Work In Process-
racks of circular saw blades as the are ground, shaped, chemically treated,
polished and sharpened. Because of the physical and chemical treatments,
labels applied to the racks of circular saw blade blanks are destroyed
at teach work station. |

a wirelss IR interface to O'Neil
portable bar code printers are located strategically throughout the facility.
Each process station is bar coded. As the circular saw blade blanks come
into the facility they are loaded on to a rack and the rack is bar coded.
As the rack arrives at the work station both the work station and
rack bar codes are scanned. A new bar coded label is automatically
created for the rack; it will be applied to the rack when the process is
completed. Liner
free labels are used to increase efficiency and safety within the facility. |

Need to track finished goods
from stock location to shipping, need to make the picking process more
accurate, need to integrate with existing business management system. |
| Solution: |
Metrologic Scan Pal PDTs with
integrated CCD scanners are used to scan items as they are picked for packing
and shipping. Records are uploaded into the existing business management
system and orders actually picked are checked against items on the Sales
Order and pick list. Existing UPC codes and shelf labels re used.
